The Lighthouses of Galicia Route is an itinerary for exploring some of the splendours of the coast of Galicia, and runs for 1,175 kilometres, crossing 76 municipalities, and taking in 44 lighthouses. Enjoy the sea, the culture and the local cuisine; a singular experience and a great way to enjoy one of the most beautiful parts of the country. Whether you choose to go by car, motorbike or motorhome, check out these eight routes, and get to know Galicia through its lighthouses.

From Viveiro to Ribadeo
This first route runs along the coast of Lugo, between Viveiro and Ribadeo. The Isla Pancha lighthouse, in a magical setting with top class accommodation options; Punta Atalaia, one of the most beautiful urban beacon towers, and the Santa Cruz viewpoint, with incredible views and a recreational area where you can spend the day, are just some of the places we suggest stopping off at. More than 60 kilometres where you’ll find various motorhome parks, and a range of hotels.

From Cedeira to Mañón
The next route through Galicia starts from Cedeira and ends in Mañón, already entering the province of A Coruña, whose coast we will also travel in the following stages. Along the way, visitors will cross the famous Santo André de Teixido shrine, the Sierra de A Capelada or Cape Ortegal. Don’t forget to check out the Punta Robaleira, and Candieira lighthouses and the Vixía-Herbeira viewpoint, all in a privileged setting. There are different options in the area for taking a break and recharging your batteries for the next day.

From Ferrol to Cedeira
Do you know the seafaring neighbourhood of A Graña in Ferrol? It’s the starting point for this route, which runs between the municipalities of Mugardos and Cariño to Cedeira, where you’ll have no trouble finding a place to spend the night. On this route around Spain by car you mustn’t miss the Prior lighthouse. It’s been functioning since 1853, and offers a privileged view of the island of Santa Comba, and the As Fontes and Punta Candieira lighthouses, which both offer both stunning views.

From Malpica de Bergantiños to Fisterra
In Buño, Malpica de Bergantiños, you can look out at the Islas Sisargas lighthouse from the Santo Adrián chapel viewpoint. On the road to Fisterra (the “the end of the world” according to the Romans) you will find the Punta Nariga lighthouse, the most modern one on the Costa da Morte. On this route you can also visit the Finisterre lighthouse, located on the cape of the same name, where you can use the motorhome area provided by the municipality to take a break.

From Cee to Porto do Son
It starts in Cee and ends in Porto do Son, where you will have no problems finding accommodation. On your journey, wonders await you such as the longest beach in Galicia, Carnota; the Lariño lighthouse, built in 1921, and the Louro lighthouse, which offers a beautiful panoramic view of the entrance to the Ría de Muros y Noia. And finally you’ll discover something of the history of Galicia with the A Atalaia viewpoint and the medieval bridge over the Sieira river.

From Corrubedo (Ribeira) to O Grove
In Ribeira, province of A Coruña, another route starts to discover Galicia through its lighthouses: it crosses the Corrubedo Natural Park, A Pobra do Caramiñal and Cambados, in the province of Pontevedra, until you reach O Grove, where you can spend the night. Along the way you will find many points of interest to stop at, such as these two lighthouses with history: Corrubedo and Punta Cabalo lighthouses, built in 1853 and 1852, respectively.

The magic of the Islas Cíes
You’ll leave the seaside resort of Cangas do Morrazo, which looks out over the Islas Cíes, via the Castro and the O Facho viewpoint. Afterwards, head along the coast until you reach the strikingly beautiful Cabo Home lighthouse. And, to finish, Cruceiro do Hío, ethnographic heritage of Galicia, will be waiting for you. There’s a campsite in the municipality that you can use if you need to.

Port of Vigo, Cangas or Baiona
In Vigo, Cangas or Baiona we will take a boat to reach the Cíes Islands, without a doubt one of the most visited places in Spain. The faro de O Monte Faro, the largest one in the islands; O Peito lighthouse, which marks the entrance to the Vigo estuary, and the A Porta lighthouse, with incredible views of the island of San Martiño, are some of the places we invite you to visit. To round things off, we recommend heading back to the starting point to take a break and bring this route around Spain by car to discover the lighthouses of Galicia to an end.
