Located in the Castile-León region in the northern part of inland Spain. It is home to several outstanding nature areas, including the Sierra de Urbión mountains, the Laguna Negra lake, and the Cañón del Río Lobos Nature Reserve.
Soria has a rich artistic and architectural heritage, and is famous for its examples of the Romanesque porticoed style in Spain, as seen in monuments such as the church of San Miguel in San Esteban de Gormaz and the cathedral of Santa María in Burgo de Osma. There are also other buildings in this style in the capital city of Soria, including the pro-cathedral and the monastery of San Juan. Soria stands on the 'Route of El Cid', based on the legend of the figure of El Cid Campeador.
