Batán de Villava exhibition in Navarra

Fulling mill of Villava

Villava-Atarrabia

Navarra

First it was a flour mill, then a fulling mill, and now it is a museum and education centre for the Arga River Park. Its current reincarnation as a museum harks back to the memory of its most important past as a fulling mill. The word “batán” comes from Arabic, meaning “to hit”. And this is the function of this machine, which is designed to transform open fabrics into denser ones by continuous rocking of the mallets.
