Painting, sculpture and precious metalwork
The museum, created in 1761, occupies rooms on three floors of the Valencia Cathedral and even the underground areas.
The extensive tour of the halls of this museum that extends throughout the cathedral also includes the Chapel of the Holy Chalice, which houses the cup that, according to local tradition, Jesus Christ used at the Last Supper. The museum contains much more, such as two large canvases by Goya, painted in 1799, depicting Saint Francis Borgia. You can also see paintings from the 15th and 16th centuries with works by Rodrigo de Osona, Yáñez de la Almedina, Vicente Masip and Juan de Juanes. The sculpture collection includes the original pieces from the 14th century Gothic door called the Door of the Apostles and the Christ of the Good Death by Alonso Cano. Also on show are the processional monstrance and other objects of precious metalwork, such as chalices and reliquaries dating back to the 14th and 15th centuries.
