Siega Verde archaeological site

The Siega Verde archaeological site is part of the most important set of outdoor Paleolithic cave art in the Iberian Peninsula, awarded the World Heritage designation by UNESCO.

The rock site of Siega Verde, in the province of Salamanca (Castile and León) preserves more than 440 engravings made on rocks eroded by the river. They were discovered at the end of the 1980s and are an enormously valuable testament to the ancient past, as they have survived intact to this day. Most of the engravings depict animals, although geometric and schematic figures can also be seen.This engraved rock art is located in the municipalities of Villar de la Yegua, Villar de Argañán and Castillejo de Martín Viejo. Since 2010, the prehistoric rock art sites of Vale do Côa and Siega Verde have been listed as World Heritage Sites.
