Oiasso Museum

Through a range of objects, the museum offers an idea of life in the old Roman city of Oiasso.

The Oiasso Museum is located in Irún, 21 kilometres from San Sebastián-Donostia, and is an essential destination for an understanding of the impact of the Roman world on the society of this area in northern Spain. Its three rooms contain numerous archaeological remains found in and around the old city of Oiasso, today's Irún. The visit offers an idea of daily life, food and customs during the first and second centuries A.D. through a range of everyday objects, as well as a collection of work tools, many of them related with fishing and mining.

Among the items on display are tableware, such as the famous terra sigillata ; a collection of hooks; needles, shuttles and lead weights for fishing nets; footwear and fabrics; ornaments and jewellery; combs; nails, anvils and files; mining picks and lamps; statues dedicated to the classical gods; the old public baths and a necropolis, located in the shrine of Santa Elena.
