They are part of the monumental complex of Tarraco, which was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
The Pretorian Tower is in one of the corners of the square of what was the provincial forum. It is a tower that housed the stairs that led from the lower city and the circus to the Provincial Forum, with which it is connected by underground passageways. In the 12th century it became a castle of the kings of the Crown of Aragon. The circus was built at the end of the 1st century, between the Via Augusta and the Provincial Forum. The building was for holding shows, such as chariot races. It served the same function until the 5th century and is estimated to have had capacity for around 30,000 spectators.
