Museum of the People of Asturias

Asturias

Museum of the collective memory of Asturias

This museum was created in 1968 to conserve and promote evidence that sheds light on the traditional society of the region of Asturias, and to preserve its collective memory. It is set in a large venue where you can visit a pavilion from the 1992 International Expo and the Casa de los González de Vega house, home to an exhibition titled, “Photography in Asturias, 1850-1965”, along with a photographic documentation centre with more than 200,000 images. This site also houses the Bagpipe Museum, and visitors can see the Casa de los Valdés house (17th century), the location of the Asturias Sound Archive, and various traditional buildings such as the Casa Campesina (model of a traditional dwelling), “hórreos” (traditional grain stores) and pavilions with agricultural tools and means of transport.
