The Fournier Card Museum. Vitoria

Fournier Museum of Playing Cards

Araba-Álava

The origin of the deck

Located in the 16th-century Bendaña Palace, this museum probably ranks first on the list of playing card museums in the world.

The origin of the museum dates back to Don Heraclio Fournier, who founded an important printing press in Vitoria in 1870. Through the different collections, the evolution of playing cards throughout history and in different countries can be appreciated, both from the point of view of manufacturing and subject matter. Visitors can view different kinds of playing cards (ancient, bullfighting, satirical, parapsychological, etc.) with a particular focus on Spanish cards.
