Castellón Museum of Fine Arts

Museum of Fine Arts (Castellón de la Plana)

Castellón-Castelló

The origins of the museum date back to the 19th century, although its current home is a building constructed in 2001 by Tuñón and Mansilla, taking advantage of the landscaped cloister of an old school and which has received several national architectural awards.

Its content is arranged thematically. The Archaeology and Ethnology section contains pieces from prehistory to the Middle Ages, mostly from the province of Castellón. The Ceramics section, the most important section in the museum, is home to more than a thousand works originating mainly from the factories of Onda, Ribesalbes and Alcora, as well as others including Manises and Teruel. In the Painting and Sculpture section, which covers the 14th to the 20th century, there are paintings by Ribera, Ribalta, Romero de Torres, Rodrigo de Osona, Sorolla, Mongrell, Puig Roda and Porcar. Highlights include sculptures by Adsuara, Viciano, Gandarias, Belliure and Vicent.
