Basque Railway Museum
Azpeitia
A point of reference in Europe
The exhibition includes 79 railway vehicles of all types.
This museum in the old station at Azpeitia includes a network of tracks and pavilions covering a surface area of 25,000 square metres, and it houses a large and rich permanent collection. Besides old locomotive pieces, there is also an important exhibition of railway clocks. Every weekend, from April to November, a steam train covers the five kilometre route from Azpeitia to Lasao. This is a wonderful experience where you can savour all the charm of the rail travel of yesteryear. You can also see one of the only surviving mechanical workshops from the beginning of the 20th century, still functioning to this day. The museum has educational materials for children to discover and value the importance of this means of transport.
