Five exhibition rooms, a project hall, an auditorium, a teaching workshop, a library and a retail area are the most important spaces in the Castile and León Museum of Contemporary Art (MUSAC), an original building by architects Emilio Tuñón and Luis Moreno Mansilla, which won the European Union Mies van der Rohe Contemporary Architecture Award in 2007. This large area, with over 21,000 square metres devoted to culture, is intended to emphasise the shared interest of art and architecture in contemporary expression. Vestibules, mezzanine floors and courtyards are especially important in this building’s white concrete interior, while the multicoloured façade recalls the stained glass windows of León Cathedral.
