Throughout the 20th century, a rough, rugged and wooded hill on the outskirts of Barcelona has been transformed into a huge 250-hectare complex dotted with exhibition halls, some as unique as that of Mies Van der Rohe; palaces, such as the National Palace; buildings such as the Miró Foundation or facilities and constructions of the Olympic Ring, which are a legacy of the 1992 Olympics. All of them are accompanied by a constellation of gardens with their own physiognomy and particular style that frame, embrace and blend into each other, such Laribal, Teatre Grec, Miramar Joan Brossa. These gardens were designed by architects, landscapers and gardeners as well known as J.C.N. Forestier, Nicolás María Rubió i Tudurí, and more recently, Ricardo Bofill and Santiago Calatrava.
