Poblet monastery is one of the best examples of religious architecture in Catalonia.
It was founded by Ramón Berenguer IV, count of Barcelona, who handed it over to the Cistercian order. The kings of Aragon created a royal pantheon in the monastery and it became one of the most prominent cultural centres of the time, with its library taking on special relevance. It is a monument ensemble of great value. Its most relevant buildings date back to the 13th to 15th centuries.It is included in the Cistercian Route together with the Monastery of Santes Creus and has been awarded the World Heritage designation by the UNESCO.
