Leyre Monastery

Yesa

Navarra

At the foot of the Leyre mountains.

The architecture of this monastery has notably influenced the evolution of monastic architectural tendencies in Spain.

Consecrated in 1057. Forgotten until the 19th century when the Benedictine monks of Santo Domingo de Silos revived monastic life between its walls in 1954. In 1979 it was converted into a self-governing abbey.
