It was created in the late 18th century by a Catalan aristocrat who decided to transform a large old family estate. The Italian architect Bagutti and the French gardener Delvalet organised the garden layout, constructions, planting and decoration. In the mid-19th century it was extended, this time in the Romantic style. In 1969, the family agreed that Barcelona City Council could acquire the park and open it to the public, and restoration work began in 1993. While the park is most famous for its extraordinary hedge maze, the different paths, statues and lush plantings make it a very enjoyable place to visit.
