Building began in the 16th century and was concluded in the 19th century. It was designed in the Baroque style by Remigio del Mármol. It has an elongated form with three basins on different levels. The monument's central figure is a sculpture of Neptune and Amphitrite riding on a horse-drawn chariot. It has 139 spouts, and has been declared a National Monument.
