Church of Santa María de Taüll

Santa María de Taüll is part of the set of Romanesque churches in Vall de Boí, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in the year 2000.

The church of Santa Maria de Taüll, built in the 11th and 12th centuries, is an excellent example of Catalan Romanesque architecture. It was consecrated at the same time as the church of Sant Climent, in 1123. It had a basilica floor-plan and three naves separated by columns, but was later remodelled to have a single nave. It has three apses and a 12th-century bell tower, five storeys tall, with blind arches and Lombard-style decoration. The interior wall paintings (scenes of hell and the Final Judgement) are copies of the originals, which are now preserved in the Catalan National Art Museum (MNAC).
