Chillida Leku Museum
Living sculptures
An outdoor museum where the work of Eduardo Chillida can be fully appreciated.
Hernani, 10 kilometres from San Sebastián-Donostia, is home to this unusual museum which reveals the personal universe of the Basque artist Eduardo Chilllida. After 15 years of restoration, the artist adapted the Zabalaga manor house to display his smaller works, drawings and earliest torso sculptures. However, the most spectacular part of the exhibition is outside, where 11 hectares of land showcase 40 large-scale sculptures, including "Buscando la luz I" and "Lotura XXXII".The museum was closed to the public from 2011 to 2019, and was modernised in a process directed by the architect Luis Laplace, known for his work in sustainable restoration, with the collaboration of Eduardo Chillida and the Dutch landscape designer Piet Oudof.
