María Inmaculada Cathedral (New Cathedral)
Araba-Álava
This neo-Gothic building was inaugurated in 1969, and stands on the site of the old convent of Las Brígidas. The project was conceived and sponsored by Bishop José Cadena Eleta, and designed by the architects Julián Apraiz and Javier de Luque. The church has a floor plan in the shape of a Latin cross, with five naves, an ambulatory and a crypt. The central nave is crossed by the triforium. The cathedral is crowned with rib vaults.
