Guadix Cathedral

The building process of Guadix cathedral lasted from the 16th through to the late 18th century.

The original building was a Visigoth temple, over which was built the Al-hama Mosque. Three stages can be distinguished in its construction: Gothic, when the present cathedral was begun by Pedro Morales and Enrique Egás, until 1547; Renaissance, in which Diego de Siloé worked to expand the building; and Baroque, beginning in the early 18th century with Vicente Acero, Thomas, Gaspar Cayón de la Vega, Pachote, Ruíz del Peral, Master Moreno, and others, in which the façades, the roof, the high altar, the choir and the pulpits were built.
