In the heart of Valladolid is Campo Grande, the city's large park. Triangular in shape, it is bordered by Acera de Recoletos, the Paseo de los Filipinos and the Paseo de Zorrilla. Its main entrance is located in Plaza Zorrilla, where, beside a modern gate, you will see the city's large floral coat of arms, a display of mosaic gardening art. The park is enclosed around its entire perimeter by a simple fence that runs between pillars, with doors on all sides. Its origin as a park, or rather, as a garden area, dates back to 1787, although since the 15th century it has been considered an urban space of great importance. One aspect worth highlighting about the park is the abundant bird population. The area is also home to a pheasant farm, an aviary and a dovecote, belonging to the Pigeon Racing Club of Castilla, which means that the turkeys, pheasants and pigeons are very numerous and have become the true inhabitants of the park.
