Art and Nature Centre (CDAN). Beulas Foundation

Huesca

Representation of contemporary culture

The Art and Nature Centre (CDAN) of the Beulas Foundation, is located in a building on the outskirts of the city of Huesca, which was designed by architect Rafael Moneo.

Since its opening in January 2006, the centre has aimed to become an international reference point for all issues relating art and nature to contemporary culture. The CDAN has two collections: the legacy of the José Beulas and his wife María Sarrate, consisting of their collection of contemporary Spanish art from the second half of the 20th century; and the Art and Nature collection, with land art and public art by renowned international figures, such as Richard Long, Siah Armajani, Fernando Casás, Ulrich Rückriem, David Nash and Alberto Carneiro. This second group of creations is not located in the centre, but rather scattered around various points in the province of Huesca, as they are works specially designed for a specific location within the landscape.

The CDAN's activities are mainly based on temporary exhibitions on its two collections and reflection on contemporary art and nature. Its exhibitions are complemented by international courses, such as the annual cycle “Thinking about the Landscape”, as well as meetings, conferences, competitions and research grants. It also has INDOC, a documentation centre specialising in art and nature that publishes a monthly digital newsletter.
