Inaugurated in 2023, this space sponsored by the Valencian patron of the arts Hortensia Herrero aims to share with society the most relevant international contemporary art and to position the region of Valencia as a cultural and artistic destination of reference.
The private collection of the Hortensia Herrero Art Centre includes works by artists such as Andreas Gursky, Anselm Kiefer, Georg Baselitz, Anish Kapoor, Mat Collishaw, Cristina Iglesias, Manolo Valdés, Michal Rovner, Ann Veronica Janssens and Tony Cragg, among others. There is also a wide representation of Spanish artists such as Eduardo Chillida, Juan Genovés, Andreu Alfaro, Antonio Girbés, Miquel Navarro, Elena del Rivero, Miquel Barceló, Blanca Muñoz, Julio González and Joan Miró. Its headquarters, an emblematic 17th-century palace, is a unique space where you can also see archaeological remains such as the Roman circus of Valencia, an alleyway in the old Jewish quarter, a medieval oven or an Islamic fountain. The restoration of the building has taken more than five years, and some artists have created specific installations that form part of its 17 exhibition spaces.
