Archpriestal Church of Sant Mateu
Castellón-Castelló
The religious architecture of Sant Mateu
The Archpriestal Church of Sant Mateu is one of the most emblematic of all the town’s historic and artistic monuments.
Building was completed on the original church in 1257; today only the base and the Romanesque doorway still remain. The Gothic church with its single nave was built in the 14th century. Highlights include the side door with various archivolts which is decorated with plant motifs and scenes of the Annunciation and the Nativity.
