Arab Baths (Ronda)

Málaga

These ancient Arab baths are a hidden treasure, exceptionally preserved throughout the centuries, in a corner of the legendary town of Ronda.

Situated in the poor area in Ronda during the times of Al-Andalus, currently the San Miguel neighbourhood, the baths are supplied by water coming from the adjoining Las Culebras stream, by means of a sophisticated water system using a traditional Moorish waterwheel. It retains the three areas that are usual in this type of thermal complex: the cold, warm and hot bathing rooms. The central room is the largest, with horseshoe arches on brick and stone, supporting the barrel-vaulted ceilings leading to star-shaped skylights covered with glass. It also has the old boiler room which was used to heat the water up, which was turned into a tannery to treat leather after the Christian conquest of the city.
