Alma Mater Museum

Alma Mater Museum

Zaragoza

The museum offers two routes, which allow visitors to learn about the history of the Church of Zaragoza and the most important historical sites in the history of Aragón, all with innovative video mapping technology (moving images or with 3D effects) that are projected on the building.

Along with a repertoire of images of the Virgin of Pilar, the ground floor of the museum shows the birth of the Christian communities in Aragon. On the first floor, visitors can visit the spaces of the 14th-century Mudejar palace of the kings of Aragon, where the splendour of the liturgy is displayed around the idea of Christ as Saviour. The evolution of medieval, Renaissance and Baroque religiosity is also displayed here through important works of the diocesan artistic heritage. On the second floor, the Renaissance palace built by Don Hernando de Aragón, grandson of Ferdinand the Catholic, houses the Bishops' Hall and the Throne Room. This is where the gallery of portraits of archbishops is found, with works by such famous artists as Goya. The museum also offers guided theme tours, children's workshops and other activities for visitors.
