Protected Landscape of San Juan de la Peña and Monte Oroel
This Protected Landscape (Huesca region) stands out for a combination of nature and culture, as it combines the typical landscape of the Pyrenean mid-mountain with one of the most important monasteries of the Early Middle Ages and the first royal pantheon of Aragon, the Monastery of San Juan de la Peña.
The diversity of environments makes this space a strategic location for fauna. One of its most characteristic landscapes are the reddish rock walls surrounded by lush forests. In spring, when the echinospartum horridum blooms, the mountain landscape turns a striking yellow, which contrasts with the spring green of the forest. Surrounded by the extensive forest stands the Old Monastery of San Juan de la Peña, leaning on Mount Pano de San Juan de la Peña.
