Ría de Villaviciosa in Selorio

Villaviciosa estuary partial nature reserve

Asturias

Located in Villaviciosa (Asturias) in the north of Spain, this is one of the best-conserved estuaries on the Cantabrian coast. Its wide diversity of species and good conservation status make it an area of great botanical interest; moreover many of the specimens in the reserve are hard to find on this coast, which adds to the attraction. There are over 1,00 hectares of protected space, and the best represented ecosystems are the marshes, which are very rare in this area. Other interesting features are the sand dunes and cliffs, home to marine ferns and rock samphire, among others.
