Cornalvo Nature Reserve is found near Mérida; inside, you can find the reservoir that bears the same name, on the Alberregas River, and its dam.

This space is made up of two parallel mountain ranges in an east-west direction. Not very high, these mountain ranges are called Sierra del Moro and Sierra Bermeja.

  • Cultural information

    Cornalvo Nature Reserve is near the city ofMérida, whose Roman archaeological site is a World Heritage Site. Its Roman theatre stands out. Inside the park, you can find the Roman Cornalvo dam, declared a National Monument in 1912. It is a reservoir, shaped like a horn, about 4 kilometres long.

  • Environmental information

    Its fauna is of particular notice. More than 200 vertebrate species have been catalogued in the area, including large, endangered birds such as the Spanish imperial eagle, the black vulture and the iconic black stork.

  • Information for visits

    Most access points to the protected area are reached from the city of Mérida. Moreover, the visitor centre is located on one of the car routes to the nature reserve, on the outskirts of Trujillanos (about 10 kilometres away from Mérida). Its structure resembles that of the old farmhouses in the area.
