Correct! One of the books of the Codex Calixtinus, written by a French monk in 1160, describes the St James' Way route to reach Santiago de Compostela. It gives practical advice and mentions places along the route, describes the people, the food and the possible dangers of the journey; that is why it is considered to be the first travel guidebook in history.
Correct! They are two of the most popular routes in Asturias. The Cares Route (known as the “Divine throat”) is the most famous in the Picos de Europa National Park. The Bear Path is loved by young and old alike as it gives them the chance to see “Paca” and “Molina” close to the Asturias Bear Foundation where they live in semi-freedom.
Correct! The Caminito del Rey in Malaga. This famous walkway, which stands 100 metres high over a gorge and was once considered the most dangerous path in the world, was named as such because in 1921, King Alfonso XIII travelled across it to inaugurate the Guadalhorce dam. From that moment on it became known as the “El Caminito del Rey” (the King’s Little Pathway).
Exactly! On the routes of the St James' Way you can see two buildings designed by Gaudí: the Episcopal Palace of Astorga on the French Way and the Capricho monument in Comillas along the Northern Way.
