1. The streets of Pamplona.

Walking is not everything when you’re exploring The Way of Saint James. Enjoying Spanish cuisine is also a pleasure you should savour along the way. In Pamplona, the pilgrims have it easy, because its narrow streets are full of enticing bars and restaurants.

2. Astorga Episcopal Palace.

Most of the work by the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí is in Barcelona, but if you visit the city of Astorga you can enjoy another of his fantastic architectural creations.

3. Leon Cathedral.

One of the obligatory stops while you travel on The Way of Saint James is León, where the stained-glass windows of its cathedral provide one of the most impressive displays of colour on the journey.

4. Lugo city walls.

Lugo offers visitors 2.2 kilometres of Roman city walls, the best conserved in the world. The wall, which surrounds the city’s old town, became a World Heritage Site in 2000.

5. Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela

Arriving in Santiago de Compostela and admiring the spectacular beauty of its cathedral is a beautiful reward after having walked for miles. There’s no written rule, but the best view of the cathedral is that which can be seen if you lie down on the ground in Plaza del Obradoiro. Exploring any of the routes on The Way of Saint James is a truly moving experience. The Camino is always there, welcoming pilgrims from all around the world and filling them with a beautiful experience that they’ll treasure for the rest of their lives.
