These dry stone structures have long shaped the different landscapes of many Spanish provinces, contributing to different styles of home, agriculture and herding, while also helping to optimise the natural and human resources of each area. These constructions also have an important role in preventing landslides, floods and avalanches. Dry stone walls do not need any other materials, as their stability is ensured by the careful selection and placement of each stone. Dry stone walling constructions are mainly found in rural areas in the regions of Andalusia, Aragon, Asturias, the Balearic Islands, Catalonia, Extremadura, Galicia and Valencia.
