Valls

Tarragona

Valls is a town on the Costa Daurada that preserves its old quarter, but what has given the town the greatest popularity are the “castells”, human towers of great beauty and difficulty declared Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.

Among the buildings of interest in Valls, you can find El Roser chapel, with 17th century tiles that commemorate the battle of Lepanto; the church of Sant Joan, which dates back to the 16th century and houses the image of the Mare de Déu de la Candela, from the 13th century; and the church of El Lledó, built in the 14th century. You can visit Casteller Museum to discover more about the castells, where their history is explained and where it is possible, for example, to check the strength needed to lift them.Regarding the gastronomic traditions of the area, the calçotada is one of the main events, a sweet onion that is cooked over naked flames and enjoyed with a sauce made with extra virgin olive oil, nuts, tomatoes and “ñoras” (sweet peppers). Calçots are not only a delicacy, but this is a gastronomic event to enjoy with family or friends.
