The city of Utrera surprises the visitor with a wealth of history and heritage. Located 35 km from Seville, it is one of the most important towns in the province.
A tour of its streets reveals the elegance of its ancestral homes, its churches and its convents. Among the most outstanding monuments, it is worth mentioning the Castle; the parish church of Santiago el Mayor, from the 13th century, with its Puerta del Perdón, in the Isabelline Gothic style; the Gothic church of Santa María de la Mesa, from the 15th and 16th centuries; the Sanctuary of La Consolación; the Convent of La Purísima Concepción, from the 16th century and declared to be National Historic-Artistic Heritage; the house of Arias Saavedra and the house of Riarola or El Niño Perdido (the lost child). The district is home to the Utrera Endorheic Lakeland Nature Reserve, formed by the lagoons of Alcaparrosa, Arjona and Zarracatín.
