A city full of sights overlooked by the monument to the Sacred Heart, which stands on the ruins of the castle. Its historic quarter still has an air of its former Arab, Jewish and Christian inhabitants.
Outstanding among the historic buildings is the Cathedral, which is in the Cistercian style on the inside and houses a beautiful Romanesque cloister, a splendid high reredos with paintings from the 15th century and countless chapels with Gothic, Renaissance and baroque reredos, the Romanesque carving of the Virgen Blanca, the Gothic carving of Santa Ana and delightful Renaissance stalls. Also noteworthy is the Romanesque church of Magdalena, with its wonderful main front and tower; the baroque buildings of the church of San Jorge and its old cloister and convent; and the church of San Nicolás, which contains a Romanesque tympanum in the style of the Magdalena. Among the ancestral and stately homes, it is worth mentioning the Renaissance palace of the Marquis of San Adrián, with its spectacular eaves and stairway; and the baroque palace of the Marquis of Huarte. Not forgetting a tour of its singular squares, such as Mercadal, where you will find the Castel Ruíz Municipal Arts Centre; Plaza Vieja or Plaza de los Fueros, from the 17th century, overlooked by the Clock Building and decorated with ceramic representations of coats of arms and bullfighting scenes.
