Prades is a town located on the Costa Daurada that dates back to ancient times. There are remains from the Neolithic era and Iberian ruins, although the town has Arab origins.
There are many very interesting monuments, such as the Gothic church of Santa María la Major, with a Renaissance façade; the medieval castle and walls, which could date back to the Islamic era; a spherical Renaissance fountain; the Plaça Major; the hermitage of the Mare de Déu de la Abellera; natural fountains; caves, and viewpoints, such as Baltasana, over 1,000 meters above sea level. In addition, it is the second most important Area of Natural Interest in southern Catalonia. Moreover, the Prades Mountains have received the Family Tourism certification.In addition, Prades is also the perfect place for hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing or contemplating the beauty of the sky at night since it is certified as a Starlight Tourist Destination. Some of its most typical products include potatoes, which have their own designation of origin, hazelnuts, honey and cured meats and sausages, and dishes such as escudella, carn d'olla and stewed wild boar.
