Ponts has its roots in distant times: prehistoric remains have been found, like the Sols de Riu dolmen and sculptures dating from the Bronze Age.
The town is dominated by the old castle, in ruins; the Romanesque church, also in ruins, of the former monastery; and the church of Santa María, a Gothic construction destroyed in the 19th century during the Carlist wars, and later rebuilt.
Ponts has numerous corners to discover, such as its promenade; the Pinyolá passage; Plaça Planell; the main street; the old wall, and Calle de Santa María. Its location, next to the Segre river, and its magnificent surroundings are the ideal setting for several leisure activities, like canoeing, one of the most traditional sports in the area. Mountain biking; motorcycling; hiking; fishing and hunting; and adventure sports, such as rafting, rock climbing and abseiling, complete the offerings.
