Montblanc is located in the Prades Mountains, which are certified with the Family Tourism Destination seal. The walled enclosure surrounding the medieval complex is of exceptional interest and one of the best preserved in Catalonia. Its historic quarter has the Property of Cultural Interest designation.
The best option to explore the town is to leave the vehicle outside the walls and visit the old town on foot. Among the most important buildings inside the complex are the archpriest church of Santa María la Mayor, Gothic church (14th-16th centuries), with a Baroque doorway (17th century); the church of Sant Miquel, with a Romanesque façade (13th century) and a Gothic body (14th century); and the church of Sant Marçal, also built with a Gothic style (14th century). The medieval area also has a large number of Gothic civil buildings, such as the Royal Palace (14th century), the Castlà Palace (15th century), the Alenyà (Gothic) and Desclergue houses (16th century) and Josa house, of medieval origin.Outside the walls, it is worth mentioning the Gothic buildings of the church of Sant Francesc (13th century) and the hospital of Santa Magdalena (14th-16th centuries). Moreover, in Rojals, a district of Montblanc, there are cave paintings designated as World Heritage and, in Montblanc, the Prades Mountains Visitor Centre, which will provide all the information visitors need about the cave paintings.Montblanc also has a modernist winery designed by architect Cèsar Martinell.
