Ledesma

Salamanca

The lovely town of Ledesma is only 35 kilometres from the city of Salamanca, on the banks of the Tormes River and close to the Arribes del Duero Nature Reserve.

It is worth taking a stroll to discover prehistoric monuments such as the “verraco”, the menhir and the remains of the Roman wall. The importance of the town can also be seen in monuments such as its mansions, palaces, churches and its castle. Notable among its religious buildings is the Gothic-style Church of Santa María la Mayor.A visit to Ledesma can begin at its History and Visitor Centre, BLETISA, and continue along its signposted routes. The Urban Route passes through the most emblematic parts of the old town, while the Puente Mocho Route crosses a forest of centuries-old holm oaks where you can glimpse griffon vultures and black kites. The bridge was built by the Romans and has been declared a Property of Cultural Interest.Nature lovers can take advantage of being in the Ribera del Tormes to enjoy its landscapes and do activities such as canoeing. If we turn to the gastronomy in town, we cannot miss its famous doughnuts, which are made in “obradores” (artisan workshops) that are open to visitors. And finally, when it comes to festivals, it is always recommended to attend the Corpus Christi festival as well as the town's well-known running of the bulls.
