El Vendrell

El Vendrell, capital of the coastal region of Baix Penedès, is on the Costa Daurada of Tarragona, and is certified with the Family Tourism Destination seal. Already in Roman times, the enclave was an important communications hub since the Vía Augusta crossed the town. The Roman remains and those of other civilizations that left their mark on the region are preserved today in its Archaeological Museum.

The town has a vast heritage, the Church of Sant Salvador standing out as one of the most important, a building with Renaissance and Baroque traces that houses a beautiful organ inside. The route around the city centre continues through Plaza Nueva square, where beautiful examples of nineteenth century architecture can be found. Other buildings of interest are the Old Hospital of Santísimo Salvador and the Romanesque Hermitage of Sant Salvador.The municipality has extensive beaches and coastal developments on its coastline. It is worth visiting the maritime neighborhoods of Sant Salvador, where you can visit the house of Pau Casals (an internationally admired and award-winning cellist and composer); El Françàs or Coma-Ruga, with its active marina and the La Masia Blanca marine reserve, a submerged space with protected flora and fauna.In El Vendrell also has the Las Madrigueres wetlands, with a diversity of habitats: sandy beaches and dunes, lagoons, scrubland, etc.El Vendrell is part of the great Penedès wine-making region, where cavas are produced, sparkling wines that stand out for their high quality.Cunit, Calafell and Torredembarra are other notable tourist hubs and residential centres that follow one another along the extensive coastline of the Costa Daurada. And very close, following the Via Augusta towards the south, appears the Arco de Barà, an imposing triumphal arch that dates back to the beginning of the 2nd century AD.
