Corcubión

Located at the end of the estuary that bears its name, the fishing village of Corcubión has a magnificent structure, architecture and urban layout in the style of a traditional maritime fishing village. Its old town has the Property of Cultural Interest designation.

The carefully-conserved old quarter of this noble town, the appearance of the seafront promenade with its row of houses facing the ocean, the old fishing harbour, and its situation between the mountain and the sea are just a few of the attractions to be found in Corcubión. Various monumental buildings in the town are worth a special mention. The 12th-century Romanesque church of San Marcos, subsequently modified in the 15th century, has one nave with Baroque chapels. The church of Redonda still has the apse and triumphal arch from the original Romanesque layout (12th century). Its numerous noble homes and mansions include particularly the Pazo de los Condes de Altamira (late 15th century, reformed in the 18th century). This is also the date of the fort or castle of El Cardenal.
