A beautiful town which sits in exceptional surroundings in the northern part of the province. The district includes the Sierra Norte Nature Reserve, and area of middle mountains which combines broad areas of pasture land with leafy forests.
In addition to the attraction of its countryside, we must also mention the wealth of monuments in town, made up mostly of religious buildings, such as the Carthusian monastery of La Inmaculada Concepción, from the 15th century, built on the remains of a hunting pavilion which belonged to King Pedro I the Cruel; the church of Nuestra Señora de la Consolación, from the 14th century, which, joining on to the Almohad walls, is a combination of architectural styles; the old church of San Benito, in the Gothic-Mudejar style; the baroque convent of San Francisco; the convent of Madre de Dios, from the 16th century; the church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen and the Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora del Monte.
