Bornos

Located by the large reservoir named after it, Bornos is one of the towns in Cadiz with the broadest horizons, as well as its gleaming traditional whitewashed houses. Its historic quarter has been declared a Property of Cultural Interest.

The town of Bornos is located in the heart of the countryside, on the banks of the Guadalete River, which broadens here into an extensive reservoir that is ideal for water sports. There are exceptional views of the outline of the Sierra de Grazalema mountains on the opposite bank of the reservoir. Bornos also has numerous points of interest, apart from the pleasure of strolling in its whitewashed streets. For example, there is the Church of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, the Monastery of Santa María del Rosario, convents and stately homes. Among these homes is the Palacio de los Ribera palace, a Renaissance building constructed in the 16th century on the old mediaeval fortified tower of Fontanar. This Palace also boasts beautiful Renaissance gardens, officially declared a Historical Garden of Cultural interest. Inspired by Bramante’s Belvedere in the Vatican, they are decorated with pools, grottos, fountains, and many different plants.
