An Arab castle, Mudéjar and Gothic houses and a mosque form part of the urban hub of Almonaster la Real, which has been declared as a historic and artistic site.

The town is located in the centre of the Sierra de Aracena y los Picos de Aroche Nature Reserve, which is one of the most important protected areas in Andalusia and occupies the entire north of Huelva. Its urban hub extends to the foot of a castle-fortress from the 9th century and the church-mosque of Nuestra Señora de la Concepción, declared a Property of Cultural Interest.The 15th century Santa Eulalia de Mérida hermitage is also a monument of interest, built on a Roman temple and declared a National Monument for its beautiful frescoes with scenes of the Apostle Santiago, and the parish church of San Martín, from the 14th and 16th centuries, in the Mudéjar Gothic style, with a Manueline façade.
