Alcalá del Júcar

Alcalá del Júcar is located in an exceptional environment, on a hill with the gorge formed by the Júcar river at its feet.

Its narrow and steep streets and its well-preserved houses ascend towards the castle, from where magnificent views of the gorge can be seen. The fortress is of Arab origin and was rebuilt in Christian times. The bridge over the river, which is of Roman origin and was rebuilt in the 18th century, offers a beautiful view and gives access to the parish church of San Andrés, from the 16th and 18th centuries, with a neoclassical entrance portico. On the other side of the river stands a very curious bullring on a hill, unique due to its location, construction and irregular shape. Natural caves, some of which have been turned into inns, are abundant in the area. They naturally maintain the same temperature throughout the year. .
