Sawdust Carpets at Corpus Christi in Elche de la Sierra
Festivity of National Tourist InterestElche de la Sierra
In 1964, ten people from Elche de la Sierra (Albacete) surprised the town by making a carpet out of sawdust for the Corpus Christi procession. This beautiful tradition has been preserved since then.
Every year the "carpet" associations try to outdo themselves by creating art with sawdust. During the Corpus Christi weekend, as well as these beautiful colourful carpets, there are many activities for all the family. A rock festival, band concerts and sports competitions are some of the options available. You can also make the most of your visit to discover the landscape of Sierra del Segura Mountains.
