Barcelona hosts the 15th edition of one of the world's most influential biennials. Manifesta carries out a continuous analysis of the state of European culture in the context of the challenges of our time.
Based on innovative dynamics and public debates, this event invites us to reflect on topics such as the challenges of globalization; the defense of public space or the need to combine social progress with environmental challenges. The organization places an emphasis on local voices and stories, drawing on extensive research of host cities over the previous two years. On this occasion, Manifesta 15 will have the metropolitan region of Barcelona as its epicenter and will be the largest edition in the history of the biennial, expanding to 11 other cities: Badalona, Cornellà de Llobregat, El Prat de Llobregat, Granollers, Hospitalet de Llobregat, Mataró, Sabadell, Sant Adrià de Besòs, Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Sant Cugat del Vallès and Terrassa. Its objective is to explore alternative models for decentralising contemporary culture in Catalonia. This will include opening spaces to the public, including Les Tres Xemeneies and Casa Gomis (an example of rationalist architecture). The event will revolve around three thematic clusters:Balancing conflicts;,Caring and looking after ourselves and Imagining futures.
