Festivity of National Tourist Interest

Boqueixón

A Coruña

This festival is held every February in Boqueixón, just eight kilometres away from , in the province of A Coruña, dedicated to a traditional Galician dessert with Roman roots and associated with the carnival: the filloa.

The filloa is a European dish with a history of over fifteen centuries. It is prepared with flour, water, eggs and salt. It is accompanied by various sweet or savoury fillings and nowadays there are even gluten-free filloas. For two weeks, tastings, cooking classes, costume contests, musical performances and traditional local games take place. The big day is Piñata Sunday. It is kicked off when the huge filloeira (filloa making machine) is lit, which can cook more than 1,500 filloas every hour.  Next comes the turn of the show by the Generals of Ulla, the most prominent figures of the region's carnival. More than fifty riders dressed in colourful traditional costumes are also a must see of this gastronomic event.
