Las Fallas of Gandía

Festivity of National Tourist Interest
Valencia-València

Satirical “ninots” (giant figures), fireworks, music, traditional costumes, fire... You can find everything that is iconic about Valencia's world-famous Las Fallas festival at the same time of year in Gandía. This traditional event was awarded the Intangible Heritage designation by UNESCO in 2016.

Gandía's Las Fallas is one of the oldest events of its type in the region. It began in the 19th century as a version of Valencia's Las Fallas. The fallas are sculptural scenes made of flammable materials starring “ninots” (the figures that comprise the scene) and are usually satirical. More than twenty spectacular fallas are built every year. There are also a number of smaller children's fallas. These fallas are displayed in the streets of Gandía on 15 March (la Plantà). Various activities take place around them over the following days, including concerts, “mascletás” pyrotechnical displays, “tracas” fireworks, processions and floral offerings. Las Fallas ends on 19 March, the Day of San José, with the burning of the fallas, which is known as the Cremá.You can find out more about this event from the interactive and multimedia displays in Gandía's Faller Museum.
